United Methodists have a lot in common with other Christians.
Like many Christians, we believe:
We believe God’s love and grace are for everyone, which is why we practice open Communion. No matter who you are or where you’ve been, you’re welcome at the table.
In our Wesleyan understanding of grace, we believe God’s grace is always at work in our lives before we’re even aware of it, in our moment of choosing to follow Jesus, and as we continue growing in faith and love.
Salvation is a gift from God, freely offered to all, and we each have the freedom to say yes. In the United Methodist Church, there’s room for questions, conversation, and even disagreement as we grow together in faith and serve together in love.

We believe faith is something you live out, not just something you believe in. John Wesley, who started the Methodist movement, taught that growing in faith means caring for others and working for a better world.
You’ll find United Methodists involved in all kinds of meaningful work, like:
Simply put: we try to love God and love our neighbors in real, practical ways.
At Polk City UMC, we believe following Jesus means loving God and loving our neighbors in real, everyday ways. We believe faith isn’t just something we talk about; it’s something we live out.
As disciples of Jesus we BELONG in community, seek to BECOME more like Jesus, so that we might BLESS others.
In the spirit of our Wesleyan heritage, we hold together two essential parts of a faithful life:
At Polk City UMC, we pray together. We sing together. We serve together.
And we believe that in doing so, God’s love becomes real among us and through us.
