Confirmation at Polk City UMC is for you!
All Youth in grades 6th-12th are welcome to be a part of our Confirmation class.
Our 2025-26 cohort will begin in September 2025.
Confirmation at Polk City United Methodist Church is a journey of faith exploration. It is a time in which we are encouraged to ask big questions and contemplate the answers God places on our hearts. It is an experience in which we are encouraged to name and claim a faith of our own.
Our hope is that through this confirmation experience, we will not merely learn about God but experience God’s loving presence. We will not merely learn about Jesus but become more like Jesus in the ways we live our lives and love our neighbors. Throughout Confirmation, our goal will be to grow as disciples of Jesus.
Confirmation is not the end of the road, but an exciting new beginning of a life of faith in Christ, lived out in ways as unique as each individual. We could never learn everything we need to know about faith in 12 sessions of class! Instead, we hope Confirmation will be just the beginning of a lifelong faith journey as disciples of Jesus.
We will build relationships with each other. We will also invite adults from our congregation to share something about their faith journeys with us so we can get to know others and hear other faith stories.
Youth will write and share short reflections to encourage deep thinking about our confirmation experiences.
We will learn about a variety of spiritual practices and encourage each other to try them out.
On our “Tour of Faith,” we will visit a variety of faith communities in Central Iowa to learn a bit about our neighbors of different faiths and, in the process, deepen our understanding of our own.
Discipleship is not a solo endevor! We will build relationships with each other. We will also invite adults from our congregation to share something about their faith with the class to get to know others in our congregation and hear diverse faith stories.
Throughout our time together, our lessons will engage the following questions:
Our hope is that we won’t merely learn about God, but that we will experience God as we grow to be more like Jesus. To this end, we will be introducing a variety of spiritual practices and encouraging each other to try them out.
Deep in the DNA of Polk City UMC is a call to mission, to serve those outside of our walls. Each week we will close our time together with a question to ponder. How will I be a blessing this week? Confirmands will reflect on ways they have been a blessing to others through service.
