Mission & Outreach at Polk City United Methodist Church

Loving God by loving our neighbors is at the heart of all we do at Polk City UMC. We offer many mission opportunities for meaningful ways to get involved.

Mission Focus

Throughout the year, we focus our mission efforts in a variety of ways, including coat drives, meal packaging events, and Habitat for Humanity service days, just to name a few! Be on the lookout for announcements about our mission focus.

Comet Cupboard Food Pantry

Open Pantry: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays 5-6 pm
24/7 Outdoor Pantry at our entry drive

Comet Cupboard volunteers:

  • fill the outdoor cupboard
  • maintain food at the library
  • work with the open food pantry
  • pickup food rescue from Fareway
  • deliver food rescue to other sites

Food rescue is picked up on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week and is quickly moved in and out. We often receive an abundance of food and the food not used in Polk City is shared with other organizations around the metro each month including:

  • Moulton Elementary Food Pantry
  • Bethel Mission
  • CFUM
  • DMARC Food Pantry in Ankeny

The Polk City community, North Polk Schools, Polk City businesses, Beautiful Savior youth group, and the Korean Church in Polk City are also generous supporters of the community pantry.

You can donate to the Comet Cupboard by bringing goods to the Cupboard itself or place them in the plastic crate by the front door of the church. Financial donations are welcome.  Make the check out to Polk City United Methodist with Comet Cupboard noted on it.
